As standard all Peugeot 306's fitted with the 2.0 HDi engine had 90bhp and I believe the same levels of security etc. As you can see this has put them all in the same insurance category although this does not necessarily mean the cost of insuring them will also be equal. This is because there are many more factors than just insurance group which influence the cost of the premium. More information on this at the bottom of the page.

Overall, the Peugeot 306 HDi is a fantastic car if you are looking for something cheap to run. It is cheap to insure and very economical on fuel, many owners will report 45mpg is easily achievable. Even though they are only 90bhp as standard there are several cost-effective options for remapping them which increases power, torque and mpg. Click here to find out more about remapping your 306 HDi. If there are any models or variants missing from the Peugeot 306 hdi insurance group table above please get in touch.
How are car insurance groups calculated?
According to the AA there are five factors which are used by the Group Rating Panel to decide which insurance group vehicles fall into:- Repair costs in case of accident - This includes the likely extent of damage and costs of parts involved to return the car to original condition
- New car value - New car value often reflects the price of repair costs so this is also taken into account.
- Parts prices - The panel compares the prices of 23 standard parts from one manufacturer to the next. Lower prices for these parts will influence the vehicle to be placed in a lower group.
- Standard security features - Security systems are designed to reduce theft and so reduce insurance claims. These systems may include alarms and immobilisers, etched glass, advanced door locks and locking wheel nuts.
- Performance - No surprise there, statistics show high performance cars result in more frequent and more expensive insurance claims. The main two factors here are acceleration (0 - 60mph) and top speed.
Luckily, Peugeot 306 HDI's do quite well on all of these factors which is why they fall into a low insurance classification group. It is important to remember that insurance group is only one of many factors which influence insurance cost. For instance I would expect insurance on the D-Turbo model will be more expensive than on the LX because it is a sportier model which is more likely to be targeted by thieves and also more likely to be owned by young males who, unfortunately, have a poor statistical record for insurance claims.
the last 2.0 hdi 306's were fitted with the 110bhp engine
